Vermox suspension is highly effective against pinworms or threadworms - the most common type of worm infection in developed countries.
Other worm infections such as Roundworm, Whipworm and Hookworm may also be treated with Vermox suspension but you should seek medical advice first as these conditions can be hard to diagnose.
Vermox Suspension can be used by both adults and children over 2 years of age. If you are Pregnant you should consult your doctor before using Vermox.
Important: As worms are highly contagious, you need to ensure that your whole family or household takes the worm treatment, whether they have shown the symptoms of worms or not.
Those with allergies to the ingredients should not take this medication. Caution should be taken if you suffer from acute liver disease or are taking the Cimetidine anti-ulcer medication. In either of these cases, long-term use of mebendazole can lead to excessive plasma concentration in the blood when the liver does not break down mebendazole sufficiently. If you use the medication Metronidazole, caution should also be taken.
Treatment is simple with Vermox Suspension, the dose is the same for adults and children. No body weight measurements or dosage calculations are required. Shake well before use and then take 1 x 5mL measuring spoon (100mg of mebendazole) of the oral suspension as a single dose.
Once you and your family have taken Vermox Suspension you will also need to take the following steps to rid your home environment of worm eggs and prevent reinfection:
A Second dose of Vermox Suspension may be Needed
All worm treatments only kill adult worms present in the gut at the time the medication is taken. They do not kill eggs or immature worms and will not protect you from contracting Pinworms/Threadworms if you are exposed to them again.
For that reason, it is a good idea to re-check for worms 2-4 weeks after the first dose to ensure a second dose is not required. This second dose will kill the remaining worms that were eggs at the time the first dose was taken.
Vermox Suspension is usually well tolerated at the recommended dose, however, there may be unwanted side effects in a few people. Nausea or vomiting, stomach pain, and diarrhea have been known to occur in rare occasions. If you experience any side effects please contact your doctor.
Each 5mL of Vermox Suspension contains; 100mg of mebendazole as the active ingredient, Cellulose -microcrystalline, carmellose sodium, methylcellulose, sucrose, sodium lauryl sulphate, methyl hydroxybenzoate, propyl hydroxybenzoate, banana flavor 054330 A, citric acid monohydrate and water purified.
